Reno's Powning Conservation District

We're official - our neighborhood that is... The enterprising folks over the Historic Reno Preservation Society had our entire neighborhood set aside as a conservation district several months ago. Details can be found at the HRPS or City of Reno sites. These signs went up all over our street signs late last week. Love the bungalow motif they used!

It's hot! 100 degrees in the afternoons! But no matter - we still had a fun senior portrait session in downtown Reno on Friday - Jessica wanted the urban look!

Virginia and Truckee Railroad - the Inyo train engine

Here's what we did for the fourth of July. This is the Inyo at the Nevada State Railroad Museum. Built in 1875 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadephia, it only sees daylight one day a year, and that day is July 4th. We actually made our weekend holiday plans around this event. She's fully operational, and still burns wood! The only reason this engine and others like it weren't scrapped years ago is that they were sold off to Hollywood long ago for movie work.

The V & T railroad was the "Queen of the short lines" and ran from 1872 to 1950 between Virginia City, Carson City, Minden and Reno. It's a fascinating part of our region's history.
